The Deputy Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives, Hon Emeka Ihedioha, has assured Nigerians of better legislation in 2014, saying that the constitution review process will be fast-tracked.

Hon Ihedioha said that the conference committee, comprising the Upper and lower chambers of the National Assembly with the duty to harmonise the position of constitutional review process, would bring their findings to a reasonable conclusion in January.

The assurance comes as many Nigerians have continued to express optimism that the year 2014 would bring about positive changes and improvement in the socio-political wellbeing of the country.

At an event in Owerri, the Imo State capital, Hon Ihedioha told reporters that the constitutional review process was at the completion stage and would be given adequate attention once the lawmakers resumes plenary by January 14.

“We will remain steadfast and ensure that policies that will advance and strengthen the Nation’s democracy in the year 2014 are made. The National Assembly is responsible and ready to listen to the yearnings of the people.  The country needs all the support we can put together now.

“As a people we must be patriotic to our responsibilities because the oneness, unity and prosperity of Nigerian are non-negotiable.

“2014 is a defining year and we enjoin politicians to play by the books and ensure that we bring about the positive sides of human being in what we do. We can only lead the people who wish and want you to lead them.

“Even as we advance to the 2015 elections, politicians in the country must play politics with moderation and love and ensure that the interest of Nigerians is utmost in their heart,” the deputy speaker stressed.
