A Retired Naval officer, Rear Admiral Francis Akpan has called on Nigerians to support the new Chief of Defense Staff, Air Marshall Alex Badeh, in fighting terrorism in the country.

This is coming in line with the assurances made by the new Chief of Defense Staff, Air Marshall Alex Badeh, promising to end the Boko Haram insurgency in the northern part of Nigeria by April.

Admiral Akpan said that the Chief of Defense Staff must have a lot of information which a normal Nigerian does not have and would have been briefed by his service chiefs as to the contingencies that has been put in place, to ensure that terrorism in the North indeed comes to an end.

While speaking on Channels Television breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily, Admiral Akpan stated that one of the roles of the Chief of Defense is to be responsible for administration of the Defense’s establishment and that he has what it takes to know the implication of the statement that he has made.

“He has a lot in which he knows and we don’t know so we should give him a chance.”

He explained that the statement which Chief of Staff made “might not be implicative if the estimates and informations are right, as a General you need to make these statements to get the confidence of the larger society”.

He added that there could be a mode of exercise the Chief of Defense Staff intends to carry out which made him carry out such estimation.
