Speaking to Channels Television in Johannesburg on Tuesday, South Africa, Mr Idemudia Uriesi, says all the stories regarding an attempted jail break were mere fabrications and do not make sense, especially bearing in mind that his client had won a leave to appeal his conviction and sentencing in November last year.
“As far as I know, Henry had been requesting to be allowed to see his private dentist, which in terms of the Correctional Services Act, he is allowed. A prisoner can apply and it can be granted.
“That request went on hidden for a while and he decided to go to court about it.
“I have two affidavits from two prison inmates. In the affidavits there were forced to make false statements about the so called escape. It is totally not true. In my opinion, it was an attempt to try to subvert us from going to court. They don’t like it when you take them to court. He has not been arraigned before any disciplinary hearing. He has not been found guilty of any attempted escape. It is just a bogus ploy to destabilise where we are trying to do,” he insisted.
Mr Okah was sentenced to 24 years in jail in South Africa last March after being convicted of masterminding the bomb blasts in Warri and Abuja in 2010 when 12 people were killed.
Mr. Uriesi says his client’s preoccupation at the moment is his pending appeal and upholding his rights even as a prisoner.
