Ogun PDP Woos Bankole For 2015 Governorship

Dimeji Bankole

The former Speaker of The Federal House Of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, is being wooed into the 2015 governorship race in Ogun State.

At a meeting held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, political leaders from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, from the six Local Government areas that make up Ogun Central Senatorial District, unanimously endorsed the candidature of the former Speaker.

In his response, the former Speaker, who was also present at the meeting, asked for more unity of purpose among party leaders and members, saying that the unity of the party was sacrosanct.

Bankole, after the meeting, avoided speaking to the media on the purported endorsement.

The meeting may be seen as an indication that the race to the top position come 2015 in Ogun State, South West Nigeria may have begun in earnest.

Bankole was elected to the House of Representatives in 2002, on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ticket to represent the Abeokuta South Federal Constituency of Ogun State. He was re-elected in April 2007.
