Mohammed-AbubakarThe Nigeria Police Force says it is doing all it can to reduce cases of crime and criminality, asking for Nigerians support in ending the rising tide of Fulani herdsmen attack on villages in some north central states.

At a meeting with top officers of the force in Abuja, the Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, listed lack of prompt information and the inability of the police to access the terrain as some of the challenges hindering the efforts.

“Some of the difficulties we encounter are the terrain of the place and the fact that information comes to us very late because of our network situation.

“In all of these attacks, as I am talking to you today, when an attack happened in Benue about 10 days ago, I sent out four units of policemen to the bush to guide those innocent souls.

“In all of these places, if you check, there are no police stations or police posts. So the commissioners of police in respective command had to grapple with the manner they will take policemen to these places and equally remain there.

“The Fulani herdsmen are not in one place. They move from one place to another, from here to Cameroon to Niger to Chad.

“Years back, there were gracing places but today, the story is different and this is part of the problem,” the police boss said.

He also appealed for the cooperation of all Nigerians in ensuring a secured nation.
