At least four riot policemen and three conventional others were killed following an attack in Jigawa State, North West Nigeria.
Eyewitnesses told Channels Television that the attackers numbering about 200 on motorbikes invaded Gwaram Local Government on Wednesday afternoon amidst gunshot.
“They attacked sharia court and a commercial bank around the area”, he said.
Using guns and improvised explosive devices, the hoodlums operated for at least two and a half hours at the time when the PDP governors were holding a meeting in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.
Confirming the attack, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 1, Tambari Yabo, said that one security guard was also killed during the attack.
“So far, we have not made any arrest, but we were able to put a number of police officers in motion and we hope to arrest them.”
Meanwhile, those who were injured have been rushed to hospital for treatment.
