federation cupAll of the Glo Premier League clubs that took part in the Federation Cup round of 64 on Wednesday reached the next round except Gombe United.

Nine clubs in the top flight secured their places in the round of 32.

The clubs are Nembe City, Heartland, Sharks, Nasarawa United, FC Taraba, Abia Warriors, Dolphins, Bayelsa United and Cup holders, Enyimba.

Enyimba began their title defence in shaky fashion as they had to battle from a goal deficit to beat non-league outfit, Sokoto North, by 3-1 at the Fifa Goal Project in Abuja.

The trio of John Uche, Abdulrahman Bashir and Kingsley Sokari scored as Kadiri Ikhana took charge of his first competitive game as Enyimba head coach.

Former Federation Cup champions, Heartland, also had to battle back from a goal against Ebonyi United who took the lead through Hyacinth Nwankwuegu’s goal. Happy Okuoka got the goal to put them on level terms.

Heartland then won the penalty shootout by 4-3.

Sharks and FC Taraba also had to win through penalties. The Blue Angels defeated Kwara United 4-3 via penalty shootouts in Benin City after 90 minutes ended 1-1.

FC Taraba and AS Racine played themselves to a goalless draw before the former won 5-4 on penalties.

Nembe City also progressed with 2-0 win over CBN Cashless FC with Emmanuel Egesi and Bina Tombiri netting their goals.

Port Harcourt club, Dolphins, brushed aside Ingas FC 3-1 with Ebube Okpokwu, Ifeanyi Egwim and Emem Eduok getting their goals.

Remo Stars stretched Bayelsa United to the last minute of their clash before Samuel Chukwudi stepped up to score from the spot on the stroke of time.

Nasarawa United defeated Young Elephants 3-2 while Mafara United were downed 0-2 by Abia Warriors.

Less-fancied Baton FC produced the only upset of the day when they defeated Gombe United 2-1.

Fourteen matches will take place on Thursday to complete the Federation Cup round of 64.
