
In line with the free education programme of Governor Rochas Okorocha’s administration in Imo State, the third phase of the distribution of free chairs, tables and instructional materials to pupils in the nursery and primary schools across the state has started.
During the official handing over of the instructional materials to the head of schools and teachers from the Local Government Areas, the Executive Chairman of the Imo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mrs Getrude Oduka, said the third phase of the distribution was the continuation of the distribution series that was flagged-off by the state Governor Rochas Okorocha in February.
The materials are meant to ensure that nursery and primary school pupils were given quality and qualitative education. She said that the govenrment was interested in providing conducive environment for the pupils’ reading and learning.
She added that in the third phase of this distribution, the (SUBEB) board had taken delivery of over 25,000 sets of tables and chairs to be distributed to the heads of the different schools.
Mrs Oduka further explained that the state government had set up a 5-man committee in each local government to ensure proper maintenance and management of all the instructional materials given to the schools.
While commending the State government for this gesture, the state chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Mr Cletus Okeke, said the third phase of the distribution had no doubt confirmed to people that the free education programme of the Governor was on course.
