JonathanThe Presidency in Nigeria says it will begin to check the activities of over 7,000 Goodluck Jonathan’s support groups championing the re-election of the president.

The Special Assistant to the President on Political Matters, Professor Ahmed Alkali, told a news conference that there was a need to check the contents of slogans from groups drumming support for the re-election of the President in 2015, to forestall the publication of slogans that could generate public criticism.

Earlier this week, the President ordered the immediate removal of the banners with the hashtag “Bring Back Goodluck 2015” by one of the support groups in Abuja.

The slogan was condemned locally by pressure groups and described as insensitive in an editorial by the Washington Post newspaper in the United States .

Professor Alkali said his office would ensure that the content and activities of all support groups were monitored and harmonised.
