Oshiomhole

OshiomholeThe Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, has abolished the maximum 35 years input in service before retirement for workers in the payroll of the state government.

He announced the new policy in a meeting with labour leaders at the Government House in Benin, the state’s capital.

Governor Oshiomhole explained that the state civil servants could now retire only when they attain the retirement age of 60.

The Governor said that the gesture was the state’s Independence Day celebration gift for the civil servants and informed by the desire to maximally utilise the experience of civil servants in the state.

No-work No-pay

Meanwhile, striking union leaders in some tertiary institutions are calling on the state government not to implement its alleged no-work no-pay directive as it will negate the resolutions they reached in a meeting with the governor last week.

The lecturers who staged a protest at the gate of the College of Education, Ekiadolor, on Thursday explained that they decided to protest after a text message was circulated among members that the state government had ordered an implementation of the directive.
