A Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the South-West of Nigeria, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, has spoken out about his determination to ensure that the next Governor of Lagos State emerges from the Eastern part of the state – Ikorodu.
He said that the Ikorodu people have been neglected for so long that he is willing to support every candidate from the region with his last breath.
Ogunlewe, who was speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, however, noted that the only thing that would stop him is if his candidate loses fairly during the primaries.
He also did not rule out the possibility of supporting an Ikorodu born candidate if such emerges from another party, “Lets wait till then,” he said.
Ogunlewe also noted that the PDP has lost many states in the South-West because of the in-fighting within the party and this is causing the marginalisation of the Yorubas from the central government.
“We must all gather together and save our children from marginalisation,” he warned, adding that the South-West would become strangers in Abuja if they do not unite.
He said that the PDP must ensure that it gets quality people to be National Assembly members, as he was not particular about the political party that the Governor is from.
