The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has assured of its readiness to eradicate all forms of vandalization in the country.
The Kwara Commandant of the Corp, Augustine Obiekwe, gave the assurance while briefing journalists on the seizure of two buses laden with 280 25 litre gallons jerry cans meant for siphoning of adulterated fuel.
He added that on January 3, at about 11pm, the command’s Anti-Vandals Unit, on their routine pipeline surveillance patrol along Afon, Otte and Gambari in Asa local government area of the state busted an attempted vandalization of petroleum pipeline.
“as our men were coming out of the pipeline, they saw two vehicles approaching the pipeline”, adding that “immediately the suspect saw our men, they opened fire on our men and retaliated.
“Sensing the superiority of our arms, they abandoned their vehicles with registration number OYO AME 60 XA blue and LAGOS DB 732 FST white carrying 140 jerry cans each” Obiekwe said.
He added that investigation is still ongoing to arrest the suspects and called on the general public to assist the command with useful information to effectively combat pipeline vandals.
