ECOWASA technical team from ECOWAS has inspected facilities at the Eastern Naval Command headquarters in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

The team inspected the facilities in preparation for Nigeria’s hosting of the coordinating centre which entailed coverage of the 15 member states.

The team led by Mr Isaac Armstrong and the representative of the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Charles Medani, took a tour of the proposed Regional Maritime Coordination Centre (RMCC) facilities as well as other platforms at the naval jetty.

According to the ECOWAS team leader, the essence of the inspection was to create a maritime operation zone with the establishment of regional coordinated centres as agreed by the head of the 15 member states in March 2013 based on the Maritime Integrated Strategy.

He maintained that the facilities of the Nigerian Navy was commendable, as it indicated Nigeria’s readiness to host the center.

The representative of the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Charles Medani, who is also the Chief of Training and Operations, Navy Headquarters, Abuja, said that the outcome of holding the RMCC would be of great reward to Nigeria and the Navy.

Also speaking, the FOC Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Henry Babalola, commended the Federal Government for their support so far.
