Festus Keyamo has withdrawn as the counsel prosecuting former Governor of Bayelsa State, Mr Timipre Silva, who is standing trial for alleged financial crimes.
According to him, the withdrawal is as a result of certain recent developments which have necessitated his decision to withdraw from further prosecution of the said charge.
In a letter to the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr Keyamo said that the developments may hamper his effective, efficient and vigorous prosecution of the charge, duties that are expected of every prosecutor.
He, therefore, asked the commission to allow him return the case files to the Commission for re-assignment to another counsel for due prosecution.
Trial was fixed to commence on Monday, May 25, 2015.
