biotechnologyThere is no hiding place for operators in biotechnology activities and genetically modified organisms who do not formalize their dealings.

This is coming from the Director-General of the National Biotechnology Development Agency, Professor Lucy Ogbadu, at a forum where experts on biotechnology matters converged to discuss food security, job creation and poverty reduction using modern biotechnology techniques.

Professor Ogbadu, who has set December 31 as the deadline for all operators to formalize their operations, warned that those who fail to comply with the directive would face the wrath of the law.

Other experts also came hard on those in dealership of genetically modified organism to regularise their operations or be sanctioned. This, they hope to do in collaboration with other government agencies.

With the introduction of genetically modified organisms to enhance agricultural productivity, there had been various misconceptions among Nigerians.

This focused on health, environment and productivity, and Professor Ogbadu, whose agency regulates the activities of GMOs in Nigeria also cleared all the doubts.

Along with other experts, she maintained that Nigeria has a lot to benefit from the modified biotechnology system if it is accepted by all.
