The impeachment of the Speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly, Honourable Jumoke Akindele, and her deputy, Fatai Olotu, has been reversed.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Honourable Olamide George, informed reporters about the reversal on Wednesday at the Cocoa Conference Hall of the Governor’s office in Akure, the Ondo State’s capital.

Honourable George, who is one of the 18 legislators that signed the impeachment notice, said that the House had resolved to allow the ‘status quo ante’ on the leadership of the Ondo State House as at March 7 to remain.

He insisted that the Ondo State House of Assembly remained united, cohesive and alive to its constitutional responsibilities.

Earlier, 18 out of the 26 members of the House carried out the impeachment of the reinstated legislators at the official residence of one of them at about 10:00PM local time on Tuesday.

While they elected Honourable Iroju Ogundeji as new Speaker, and Honourable Ayo Arowele,‎ as the Deputy Speaker, the aggrieved legislators decried that their interest were not well protected by the leadership.
