China Crane Collapse Leaves At Least 18 Dead

At least 18 people have been killed by a crane which collapsed in high winds in China’s Guangdong province.

According to an official in the city, the crane had toppled onto a two-storey building made of shipping containers.

We understand that 139 construction workers had been inside of the building at the time of the collapse, early on Wednesday morning.

Thankfully, most of them escaped, but by Thursday morning another 18 workers were rescued and taken to hospital.

Rescue operations are still ongoing.

The accident is the deadliest to strike the region since 74 people were left dead or missing when a man-made mountain of construction waste collapsed onto buildings in the nearby city of Shenzhen in December.
