The declaration was made by the Director General, National Youth Service Corp, Brigadier General Sule Kazuare, at the 2016 orientation programme which took place in Umunna, Bende Local Government area of Abia State, Nigeria.

He disclosed that the orientation camp programme of corps members was shifted due to logistics and finally put to rest the rumours that the scheme had been scrapped.

The Director General also made it clear that the NYSC has come to stay in the country and everything necessary would be done to sustain it.

Similarly, the NYSC State Coordinator, Francesca Ifon, also promised proper implementation of policies that will improve the NYSC scheme.

She, however, appealed to the state government for an urgent intervention to cushion some of the environmental and infrastructural challenges.

A total of 1899 Corps members were present at the orientation camp programme. The State Coordinator asked for more assistance to enable them to accommodate the increasing number of corps members posted to the state.

She called on the Federal Government to establish farms across the 36 states as part of a skill learning programme.

He explained that the members of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) could be used as drivers of a youth agricultural initiative which will provide employment and encourage youth involvement in agriculture.
