Nasarawa, Flood Victims, Nasrawa floodThe Nasarawa State government has sympathized with the victims of the recent flood disaster that occurred in seven villages of Lafia, the state capital.

A heavy downpour had recently wreaked havoc in Lafia East Development Area of Nasarawa State resulting to the death of four people.

The flood washed away large hectares of farmlands and also destroyed a number of houses.

It also broke down bridges linking the villages, forcing residents to use other routes.

A special delegation of the government who visited the area to ascertain the level of destruction gave the assurance that prompt intervention was underway.

The Nasarawa Commissioner for Local Government and leader of the delegation, Mr Aliyu Tijjani, promised that the government will intervene immediately.

He called on the residents of the riverine area to avoid building houses close to water channels.

He promised that the government would reconstruct the broken bridges, provide relief materials and farm inputs to alleviate their sufferings.

Mr Tijjani warned residents to avoid building houses close to water channels explaining that most of the houses destroyed were guilty of this.

The Sole Administrator of the area, Mr Suleiman Wambai, who was part of the delegation, also assured the people of quick government intervention.

The people, while being appreciative of the visit, appealed to the government to put modalities in place to avert a re-occurrence of such disaster.
