Top Government officials in Benue State have been asked to check all forms of financial irregularities and payroll manipulation as part of measures to track looting of the state’s treasury.
Governor Samuel Ortom gave the task on Monday while swearing in 11 new Permanent Secretaries at the government House.
He pointed out that fraud committed by political office holders could be prevented if the accounting officers did their job professionally.
After the ceremony, one of the accounting officers, Helen Atom, told Channels Television that she would correct all the wrong practices and fraud in the system.
Such practices she alleged had led to looting of over 107 billion Naira by previous administration in the state.
