The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion and posting of 18 Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs).
A statement by the Commission’s spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, disclosed that the PSC also approved the postings of four other AIGs earlier promoted.
The Commission on Saturday explained that 12 of the AIGs are to man the 12 Police Zonal Commands while the remaining 10 would head Police special formations such as Operations, Training, Police Academy, Info-Tech, Investment, Maritime and others.
“The Commissioner of Police Kaduna State, Ibrahim Adamu, is now AIG, Zone 1, Abdulmajid Ali, CP, Ogun State, AIG, Zone 2 and Usman Tilli, AIG Border is now AIG zone 3.
“AIG Dorathy A. Gimba retains her Command of the Investment Formation, AIG Mohammed K. Mohammed, SPU and Mohammed Musa Katsina moved from Maritime to DS, NIPSS.
“AIG Katsina will be replaced at the Maritime Desk by Paul Okafor, CP Benue State,” the statement said.
37 Commissioners of Police including nine Deputy Commissioners of Police also had their promotions approved by the commission and 16 of these commissioners retained their commands.
Former Inspector General of Police now Chairman of the PSC; Dr. Mike Okiro, said the promotions and postings were in line with the Commission’s resolve to re-position the Nigeria Police Force for better performance.
He congratulated the officers and challenged them to be hardworking and dedicated to their duty, failing to do that the Commission will hold any of them personally responsible for any failure in the discharge of their duties.
He also asked them to rededicate themselves to the service of their nation and abide by the rules and regulations guiding Police work, stressing the need to hold their leadership positions with the fear of God and fairness to all parties.
