The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Father Matthew Kukah, is asking Nigerians not to leave the management and development of Nigeria in the hands of politicians alone.
Speaking in Abuja at an empowerment programme for persons with disability organised by Senator Osita Izunaso under the Kpakpando Foundation for Physically Challenged Persons, Father Kukah highlighted that Nigeria is being threatened daily by the activities of militant groups and politicians who divide the polity through religion.
He appealed to Nigerians, who are dissatisfied with the secular state of the nation to relocate to other countries of their choice as according to him, this country has gone through so much.
“We have shed so much blood. We are still going through the problems of Boko Haram. We are still going through the problem of the Shiites. We are still going through the problem of the Avengers and we are still going through the problem of Biafra and everywhere you turn in the country, Nigeria is threatened,” he stated.
Father Kukah further pointed out that the conversation on Sharia Law “is nothing other than a gimmick by politicians who are seeking political mileage.
“Religion is not just necessarily a textbook and therefore, I make the point that the issue of building our country is too important to be left in the hands of politicians”.
He warns Nigerians to stop overheating the polity saying; “if there are Christians who are not satisfied with Nigeria and they want to live in a Christian state, maybe they can go to Zambia where the president experimented with setting up a Christian state.
“If there are Muslims who feel that this country is not good enough and that the religious landscape is not good enough, this people can relocate to Saudi Arabia and live under Quranic law,” he told the gathering.
