AFCON 2017: Egypt Defeat Burkina Faso In Penalty Shootout To Reach Final

Egypt has reached a record-equaling Ninth Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final, defeating Burkina Faso 4-3 on penalties, after a 1-1 draw.

Egypt Coach, Hector Cuper, has expressed excitement with his side’s performance after edging out a tough Burkina Faso in the semifinal of the AFCON.

Mohamed Salah, opened the scoring for Egypt when he curled a superb shot into the top left corner.

Burkina Faso leveled when Aristide Bance chested down Charles Kabore’s cross and volleyed in making the Francophone country the first side to score against Egypt in the 2017 edition of this tournament.

However, the Pharoahs advanced 4-3 on penalties to set up a mouthwatering final clash between Egypt and the winner between Ghana and Cameroon, this was after exhausting the extra time.

However Coach Cuper admitted it was one of his toughest match as Burkina Faso pushed his team beyond his expectation.

With the Egypt’s victory, the Pharaohs continue their remarkable success rate in Nations Cup, proceeding to the 2017 AFCON finals with the hope of lifting the Nations Cup trophy for the 12th time.
