Former Green Eagles Captain, Segun Odegbami, believed West African countries can use “sports” as a tool to prove it has what it takes to be a strong force in the world if the opportunity beckons for a 2030 or 2034 world cup bids.

Odegbami who was one of the guest speakers at this year’s “The Platform” in Lagos urged the region to form a united front for the dream to be achieved.

Odegbami said, “Sports has the power to make changes and opportunity beckons, 2030 beckons. The 2034 World Cup beckons it will be the turn of Africa, let us resurrect that idea because FIFA already has expanded the World Cup to 48 countries, they have agreed.

“Now they know that a single country hosting the World Cup may never work, people are coming up with idea of a multi-nation World Cup.

“We can have the West African World Cup either four or five or six countries and the dream of our fathers at the independence would be achieved.”
