A Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, has said that Nigeria has a lot to gain from the ongoing G-8 Summit holding in Turkey, especially in tackling terrorism and boosting bi-lateral trades.

He made this known while during an interview on Channel’s Television’s News At Ten programme, from Istanbul.

The Presidential aide said, “The key agreements in this area include a decision by both countries to support one another in fighting transnational crime, illegal and illicit arms importation, it is also human and drug trafficking, agreements have been reached on how to curtail these things.

“The recent agreements will be duly signed in the recent days, weeks when our lawyers have both settled the agreement that is one aspect. The military agreement has also been reached for the training of Nigerian military men and women by Turkey.

“We have both at least two companies that are going to invest in the manufacturing of weaponry in conjunction with Nigeria and export to other countries. Of course, we have backed each other fighting terrorism on the international stage and also in our individual countries which have confronted by these challenges.”

Although the SSA admitted that Nigeria would host Trade Ministers of the organisation in November, which will, however, be based on the need to expanding the volume of trade.

In his words, he said , “This is a big one for us because one of these things that they are discussing, they want to increase trade between themselves. Not only do they want to increase their volume, they also want to influence greater participation by targeting between 15 to 20 percent control of the one trade between themselves.

“The Abuja meeting is expected to focus on the mechanics on how to achieve this great objective. I can assure you that there will not be a threat as such as these that are beneficial to our economy. The President of the country left with three clear objectives in his mind in soliciting support in fighting terrorism, boost trade and private sector investment.
