PDP Flags Off Presidential Campaign In North West

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday launched its North West presidential campaign for the 2019 elections in Sokoto State.

The event attracted leaders of the opposition party from various parts of the country, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, Senate President Bukola Saraki, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.

The campaign was moderated by the lawmaker representing Kogi West district, Senator Dino Melaye, who was recently appointed as one of the heads of directorates of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council.

The presidential candidate of the PDP and former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, as well as his running mate, Peter Obi, were also among the party leaders at the event.

Former President Jonathan, PDP National Chairman Uche Secondus, and Senator Saraki among others took turn to canvass support for Atiku at the rally witnessed by hundreds of party supporters in Sokoto.

In his address, the former President stated that of all the presidential candidates participating in the forthcoming poll, Atiku remained the most eligible.

Saraki, on his part, decried the rate of hunger among Nigerians and described the PDP candidate as “the man that can bring food to the table.”

Others at the event were former governors Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Ahmed Makarfi (Kaduna), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), and Rabiu Kwankwanso (Kano).

Earlier, the PDP said the rally would be used to touch base with leaders in the North West geopolitical zone on further consultations on the national consensus to ‘rescue Nigeria’ from the Muhammadu Buhari administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Director of Media and Publicity of the campaign council, Kola Ologbondiyan, had also explained in a statement on Sunday that the campaign would focus on issues.

He added that it would address the concerns, plights, fears, and aspirations of Nigerians in the zone, in line with the policy document of the PDP candidate.
