The Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, has decried the level of insecurity in Nigeria, especially in the northern part of the country.

He stated this on Tuesday during the funeral mass of a seminarian, Michael Nnadi, at the Good Shepherd Seminary in Kaduna State.

Bishop Kukah alleged that the North has turned into a graveyard, adding that the region has been engulfed in one crisis or the other.

“Islam has convulsed,” he told the audience at the gathering, adding “It has become associated with some of the worst fears among our people.”

“Muslim scholars, traditional rulers and intellectuals have continued to cry out helplessly, asking for their religion and region to be freed from this chokehold,” the clergyman claimed.

He stressed that despite the calls by Northern leaders over the security challenges in the region, nothing has been done to address the situation.

Kukah insisted that the North has been consumed by insecurity, saying that the region has the worst indices of poverty among other bad ratings.

He also took swipe at President Muhammadu Buhari, saying the Fulani (the President’s kinsmen) have become the subject of ridicule in parts of the country.

“His (Muhammadu Buhari’s) North has become one large graveyard; a valley of dry bones, the nastiest and the most brutish part of our dear country.”
