Two Soldiers Killed As Troops Annihilate Boko Haram/ISWAP Terrorists In Gajiram

Two soldiers were killed on Sunday following a clash between troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) and terrorists belonging to the Boko Haram (BH) and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) sects.

Army spokesman Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, who disclosed this in a statement, however, noted that the land and air component troops of the Joint Task Force annihilated several BH and ISWAP terrorists in an encounter at Gajiram Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to him, the vigilant troops of Sector 3 Operation Hadin Kai supported by the Nigerian Air Force component, brought a devastating volume of fire upon the terrorists who were attempting to infiltrate the Forward Operating Base using Gun trucks and several other weapons.

The terrorists are said to have retreated in disarray after suffering several human and equipment casualties.

The gallant troops, afterward exploited the withdrawal route of the fleeing terrorists, recovering 10 AK-47 riffles, one Anti-Aircraft Gun, one Shilka barrel, one 60mm Mortar tube, and 61 rounds of PKT riffle ammunition amongst others.

Also uncovered along the route were several charred remains of the terrorists.

The troops are mounting increased pressure on the insurgents.

 

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya in his reaction to the development urged the troops to aggressively maintain the momentum of the pursuit until the remnants of the fleeing terrorists are destroyed.
