LASG Pushes For Compliance With Elevator Safety Standards

The resolution was reached at the end of a stakeholders’ meeting, following an elevator crash that led to the death of a medical doctor, Dr Vwaere Diaso at the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island.

The Lagos State Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations in conjunction with the Lagos State Safety Commission and Lagos State Lifts and Vertical Transportation Association, have said that elevator safety standards must be strictly followed to avert negative occurrences in the built industries.

In a statement on Thursday, noted that the resolution was reached at the end of a stakeholders’ meeting, following an elevator crash that led to the death of a medical doctor, Dr Vwaere Diaso at the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island.

Speaking at the equipment safety workshop for the year 2024 with the theme ‘Safety Compliance in the Elevator and Vertical Equipment Industry,’ which took place at the Moven Pick Hotels, Ikoyi, the Director General of the Lagos Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola, said the workshop was held towards enhancing safety standards and fostering compliance within the elevator and vertical transportation sector.

“This workshop serves as a pivotal platform for industry professionals, regulatory bodies and stakeholders to come together, exchange knowledge, and collaborate towards a safer environment for all,” Mojola said

The Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Olugbenga Oyerinde, said the workshop was important because “a strong occupational safety and health culture is not just a goal but a fundamental necessity in any workplace. It is our collective commitment to safety management that can prevent accidents, injuries and fatalities while safeguarding the future success and growth of our business.”
