The Federal Housing Authority (FAA) said it would soon begin the construction of affordable houses for vulnerable and low-income earners in Kaduna State and other parts of the country as part of efforts to provide shelter for the low and middle class.

Speaking in Kaduna while visiting Governor Uba Sani on Thursday, the Managing Director of the authority, Oyetunde Ojo, said the pilot project which will commence in Kaduna, will boost access to decent, quality, and affordable housing for all Nigerians.

He explained that the authority chose Kaduna for the pilot project due to its strategic nature and population.

“For us in the federal housing authority, we are here in Kaduna knowing the pivotal role of the state, the geopolitical zone is important. If you look at the six geopolitical zones in the northwest, Kaduna is extremely key,” he said.

“Kaduna is the gateway to the North-West and also to other states in the country. We are highly delighted that His Excellency has removed all the bottlenecks and the bureaucracy in the process. If not for His Excellency, how then do you come to a state and get land under 24- hours?

“This is the first state that we have been, and we have land under 24- hours. That’s massive and that’s encouraging and that shows the capacity of his excellency and his readiness in giving his people affordable houses.”

On his part, Governor Sani commended the management of the Federal Housing Authority for choosing Kaduna State for the pilot mass housing scheme. He therefore approved land to be allocated to the Federal Government for the housing project.

“They have applied for land to build affordable houses in Kaduna.  For me, it’s a welcome development because it is one of the most important agenda of our government, both at the state and federal level,” he stated.

“As you are aware, President Bola Tinubu has made it clear at the beginning of the government, that housing for the less privileged in this country is key. And we believe that everyone should have shelter.

“And of course, here in Kaduna, we have since accepted their request, and I have already directed the Kaduna State Geographical Service to quickly get back to me. And by the grace of God, in the next one week, we will be able to allocate massive plots of land for the federal housing authority to commence building for the less privileged and the Middle class here in Kaduna.  And of course, we discussed the issue of partnership. We will work to ensure we have off-takers.”
