The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission has dissociated itself from a purported local government elections timetable doing the rounds, that it would hold local government elections in October.

This was in   reaction to a news item circulating online, allegedly emanating from it, tagged ‘Notice of the Year 2024 Local Government Elections In Ogun State.’

The news item quoted the chairman of the commission, Babatunde Osibodu, as saying that elections into the 20 local governments and 236 Wards in the state, will be conducted on 26th October, 2024.

The state electoral commission, however, said that no date has been agreed upon or fixed for the conduct of the elections in the state.

It described the circulating information as the handiwork of fake news merchants, urging the general public to disregard it.

The statement emphasised that the public will be appropriately informed anytime elections into the third tier of government are scheduled to take place, adding that the state government under Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration, is not unmindful of the importance of the local governments as the third tier of government, and the need to do the needful to enthrone democratically elected representatives.
