The Niger State Government has inaugurated a school farm project. The initiative, launched at the SUBEB Model School in Minna, the state capital, aims to build a new generation of farmers and entrepreneurs.
It is also to empower students with modern farming techniques and entrepreneurial skills.
According to the Niger State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hadiza Mohammed, the project is designed to build early farmers who will not only provide food but also create jobs.
Mohammed reiterated the government’s commitment to establishing skills acquisition centers in schools, aligning with the Federal Government’s policies that require secondary school graduates to have at least two entrepreneurial skills.

Meanwhile, the Executive Chairman of the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board, Muhammad Ibrahim, says 15 skills have been approved for basic schools. To achieve this target, the board is upgrading its guidance and counseling unit to a full department.
The students have welcomed the project and are eager to gain practical experience.
A year-two secondary school student, Shehu Salihu, expressed his eagerness to apply theoretical knowledge of farming to practical experience. His classmates share his dream.
This innovative initiative is part of the Niger State Government’s efforts to promote sustainable development, improve livelihoods, and ensure food security. The project is expected to inspire a new wave of young farmers and entrepreneurs in Niger State.
