In a major political twist ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) bloc in Kebbi State on Sunday distanced itself from the former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and unanimously endorsed Governor Nasir Idris.
The announcement was made during a stakeholders’ meeting in Birnin Kebbi, where the leader of the CPC bloc in the state, Musa Kabi, declared their full support for Governor Idris in the presence of party loyalists and chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Danmaliki, the decision to fully integrate the CPC bloc into the APC was based on the fact that it has been part of the ruling party since the 2013 merger that formed the APC under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“We are already members of the APC and cannot be forced into joining another party, like the Social Democratic Party (SDP), just to serve the personal interest of one individual,” he said.

Danmaliki alleged that despite the sacrifices made to support Malami’s political rise, including helping him secure a ministerial position under Buhari, he abandoned the bloc once he attained power.
“He only enriched himself and his family, leaving us high and dry after we staked our lives, energy, and resources to help him succeed,” he added.
Also speaking at the event, the former CPC chairman in Kebbi State, Atiku Bunu, expressed frustration over what he described as years of neglect.
“Despite my age, I went from pillar to post to ensure our party succeeded. With no money and no power, we delivered 12 million votes for Buhari under CPC, yet we were abandoned. Nobody can decide for us now,” Bunu said.
The Kebbi APC chairman, Abubakar Zuru, welcomed the CPC bloc members, urging them to renew their membership cards to continue enjoying the benefits of the party.
“Though you’ve always been with us, we welcome you back fully. Just remain committed and avoid being seen in multiple camps,” Zuru advised.
In his closing remarks, Governor Idris thanked the CPC bloc for joining what he called “the moving train of success,” assuring them of inclusive governance.
“I run an open government that serves everyone in Kebbi State. Since assuming office, we have focused on developing infrastructure, agriculture, education, and other sectors. Our promise to develop the entire state is being fulfilled,” he said.
The governor called on all well-meaning people of Kebbi State to join him in rebuilding the state.
“To those who do not wish to see the state progress, we are ready to face them. We have the mandate of the people, and they appreciate what we are doing,” the governor added.
