Meanwhile, after considering a separate motion, the House of Representatives has resolved to
to investigate operational issues related to driver’s license issuance, revenue generation, and usage within the last three years.
The motion sponsored by Hon. Afam Ogene, highlighted the need to also clearly ascertain which public agency has the legal responsibility of designing, producing, and issuing a driver’s license.
Also, the House is asking the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the healthcare system of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), ensuring that emergency funds are released for the upgrade of hospitals, recruitment of medical personnel, and acquisition of critical medical equipment.
This is sequel to a motion of urgent public importance by Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi on an impending health crisis in the FCT healthcare system.
The House observed that government hospitals and medical facilities being severely overstretched, resulting in a critical shortage of bed spaces and medical personnel, while noting that the population of the FCT has surged significantly over the past two decades.
The House is worried that many of the existing government hospitals were constructed
several years ago, with little or no expansion to match the growing demand for healthcare services.
Part of the resolutions is to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the current state of healthcare facilities in the FCT.
