The National Secretary of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), Peter Umeh, has expressed confidence that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has the right vision and plans to transform Nigeria if given the opportunity.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Umeh said Obi’s leadership approach was not about merely occupying office but about entering office with a concrete plan and ensuring its full execution.
“What I want to tell people is that Peter Obi will get it right. He will get it right for the good of our people. It’s not about trying to be in office; it’s about trying to get into office with a plan and making sure these plans are executed,” Umeh stated.

He dismissed the idea that four years is too short a time to make a meaningful impact in governance, describing such views as a reflection of entitlement to an extended tenure.
Umeh, who referenced the Nigerian Constitution to buttress his argument, stated, “Anybody who tells you four years is not enough are people who feel entitled to eight years, because the Constitution clearly states you will be elected for a period of four years, and you will vacate the seat if you do not put yourself forward for another election,” he explained.
According to him, political leaders who privately promise to serve just one term are different from those who make such commitments openly on national television.
He argued that transparency in leadership intentions was critical for restoring trust between the electorate and those in power.
Umeh concluded that Obi’s candidacy represented a chance to realign Nigeria’s democracy with accountability and development-driven policies.
