Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has met with leaders of the Swiss Parliament to discuss global trade issues.
Okonjo-Iweala disclosed the meeting in a post on her official X handle on Friday, sharing photos with the Swiss delegation.
She said she held a “great exchange” with Maja Riniker, President of the National Council, and Andrea Caroni, President of the Council of States.

The talks focused on tariffs and trade challenges, the impact on Switzerland, and reforms to strengthen the multilateral trading system.

Also present was Switzerland’s Ambassador to the WTO, Erwin Bollinger, alongside other members of the Swiss parliamentary delegation.
Okonjo-Iweala noted that the discussions included the repositioning of the WTO in addressing pressing global trade concerns.
She also celebrated the forthcoming entry into force of the WTO’s Fisheries Subsidies Agreement, scheduled for Monday, 15 September.
According to her, Switzerland set a strong example as the first WTO member to ratify the agreement.
She expressed gratitude to the country for its leadership on trade reform and commitment to sustainable practices.
