The Niger State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has organised a special children’s party for less privileged children and orphans to mark the 2026 New Year celebration.

Speaking at the event, the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hadiza Idris-Kuta, said the initiative was aimed at bringing joy to vulnerable children and ensuring they are not forgotten, especially during the festive holiday period.

According to her, the happiness seen on the faces of the children reflected the core objective of the programme.

“When children are happy, everyone is happy. That is what we set out to achieve: to show love, care, and concern to the less privileged and vulnerable children, particularly during their holidays when they deserve special attention,” she said.

She noted that the children were treated to popcorn, ice cream, drinks, food, and other refreshments, adding that their excitement and joy were a testament to the success of the event.

Kuta revealed that the ministry has several programmes lined up for children, with strong emphasis on education, digital literacy, computer skills, and emerging technologies.

“We want our children to understand what is happening in the world today and to adapt to the changing technological environment, while ensuring they are safe, agile and well cared for,” she added.

Also speaking, Ramatu Batamangi, wife of the Chief of Staff, who represented the First Lady, said the motive behind the celebration was to share love, care and compassion with the children. She explained that the event was organised to celebrate with them, wish them a happy New Year and encourage them to strive for a better future.

She described the First Lady, Fatima Bago, as a caring mother and grandmother who finds joy in celebrating with children at all times, not only during festive seasons.

“She sees all the children as her own and takes happiness in seeing them smile. That is why we are here today to remind them that they are loved and that we are always together with them,” she said.
