COAS Visits Jos, Reassures Residents Of Peace Efforts

The army chief urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, comply with the curfew, and cooperate with security agencies.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday led heads of security agencies to Jos, Plateau State, for an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation.

The visit comes amid the deadly Sunday night attack in Anguwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, which claimed 28 lives.

According to a statement by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, the visit forms part of ongoing efforts to restore calm and entrench lasting peace across the state.

Upon arrival, the army chief was received by the state governor, Caleb Mutfwang, in what was described as a demonstration of strong civil-military cooperation and a shared commitment to addressing emerging security challenges.

During the visit, Shaibu received a detailed operational briefing from the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace, Major General Folusho Oyinlola. The briefing outlined ongoing operations and proactive measures being carried out in collaboration with other security agencies to protect lives and property and stabilize affected communities.

The army chief also engaged with community leaders and residents, assuring them of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to safeguarding law-abiding citizens. He urged residents to remain calm and vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.

“We urge residents to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of security agencies by complying with the curfew and cooperating fully with ongoing operations and investigations, while going about their lawful activities,” he said.

Reacting to the visit, Chairman of Jos North Local Government Area, Dachung Bagos, commended the army chief for the timely intervention, noting that it would boost public confidence in security efforts.

Similarly, the councillor representing Naraguta ‘B’ Ward, Ladi Dangyok, described the visit as a source of reassurance for affected communities.

The Nigerian Army, in the statement, said it remains committed to working with sister security agencies, the Plateau State Government, and key stakeholders to address security challenges and ensure lasting peace in the Plateau State.
