Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has expressed sorrow over the death of the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru, describing it as a monumental loss to the state and the nation.
Zuru died on Monday at a hospital in Cairo, where he had been receiving treatment for a prolonged illness. His death was confirmed by the Clerk of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Suleiman Shamaki.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yahaya Sarki, Idris said he received the news with “profound shock and a heavy heart,” noting that the late Speaker was a trusted ally, dedicated lawmaker and an outstanding leader.
The governor described Zuru as a pillar of legislative stability and democratic governance, as well as a dependable partner in efforts to advance the development of Kebbi State. He added that the late Speaker’s humility, wisdom and commitment to duty distinguished him as a true patriot.

According to Idris, Zuru’s death has created a significant vacuum in the state’s leadership, stressing that his calm disposition, maturity in handling state affairs and commitment to unity and progress would remain indelible in the hearts of the people.
He further described the late Speaker as a man of honour, integrity and loyalty who served the state with distinction and left behind a legacy of selfless public service.
The governor said the loss was not only personal to the government and people of Kebbi State, but also a major blow to the State House of Assembly, the political class and all who knew and worked with him.
Idris prayed for Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give his family, the people of Zuru Emirate and the entire state the strength to bear the loss.
Born on April 5, 1970, Zuru is survived by his wife and five children.
Until his death, he represented Zuru Constituency in the Kebbi State House of Assembly. Details of burial arrangements are yet to be announced.
