The Delta State government has emphasized that the provision of good infrastructure development for the people which includes construction of roads, bridges, drainages, rehabilitation and construction of schools amongst other ongoing projects in the state is a must.

The State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan gave this assurance while addressing a press conference in Asaba, the Delta State Capital.

Dr. Uduaghan appealed to the people for patience and understanding on why some roads have  not been completed, explaining that the early rains slowed down the pace of work on the ongoing road projects while disclosing that the flooding on Okpanam/Asaba road has necessitated a change in the design of the drainage and construction of the road.

The Governor however admitted that, it would be impossible for his administration to carry out all infrastructural projects, especially roads and rehabilitation of schools.

He noted that with about 1,600 public secondary and primary schools in the state, a huge number of the schools have been rehabilitated and reconstructed with contract also awarded for some other ones, adding that where a school is in dire need of classroom blocks, the state has to work on the entire school and not restrict it to just one block.

Reacting to the issue of waste management in the State, Dr. Uduaghan said a situation that has plagued the state in recent times, even with the massive  clean-up exercise that was declared a month ago, it is clear that the people of Warri and its environs do not have a clean culture because the roads are still being littered with waste on the median and on the walkways, unfortunately Asaba axis has cultivated that same habit by dumping waste indiscriminately on the road.

He however  observed that the security situation in the state has greatly  improved with very few incidence of kidnapping and armed robbery. Governor Uduaghan revealed that  he has met with host communities to the $16 billion Gas City project and they have resolved not to engage in any action that could derail the project.

The Governor also appealed to Deltans to be vigilant against any form of terrorism, adding that people should know their neighbours.
