Gunmen Kidnap UBEC Chairman, Daughter Along Kaduna-Abuja Highway


The Chairman of Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Mohammad Abubakar and his daughter have been abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers along the Kaduna-Abuja highway.

Confirming the incident in a statement, spokesman for the the Kaduna state police command, DSP Yakubu Sabo, says the gunmen who were dressed in military uniform intercepted two vehicles including a sports utility vehicle belonging to the UBEC chairman around Kurmin Kare village along the highway at about 3:30 pm on Monday, shot the driver dead, and later abducted the UBEC chairman and his daughter to an unknown destination.

He said that two occupants of one of the vehicles who were travelling from Kano to Oyo State were injured and rescued to Katari Police Station.

The statement explains that a Combined Team Police Mobile Force, Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command, Special Forces and Operation Yaki were quickly mobilized to the area with a view to combing the bush for possible rescue of the victims and arresting the criminals.

It, however, quotes that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Abdurahman has appealed to members of the public to support the police with relevant information which could assist in apprehending the perpetrators of the heinous act.

Police Arrest Suspected Impersonator Of El-Rufai Defrauding Kaduna Residents


A suspect who specialises in impersonation, extortion and defamation of character has been apprehended by the Kaduna State Police Command.

The suspect, Mohammed Jamilu specialises in using the name of the state governor, Nasir El-Rufai to commit crimes by putting his victims in fear of death or grievous hurt through false information that is capable of inciting a disturbance.

The State Commissioner of Police Ahmad Abdurahman who paraded the suspect on Friday at the command headquarters said Jamilu had been having meetings with clergymen in the state, using the governor’s name to instil fears in them.

“Mohammed Jamilu is a 30-year-old who specialises in defamation of character, he chose his victims to be those that are highly placed individuals in the society, including the clergy.

“He would speak to them, try to convince them that he was hired by the state governor to eliminate them and through that, he would incite disturbance and also extort money from them.”

The CP said that the suspect has confessed to the crimes alleged and has provided useful information that will be used to charge him to court.

He added that 34 other suspects were arrested for different crimes in the state.

The police commissioner also disclosed sixteen suspected kidnappers were equally arrested by troops of Operation Puff Adder that was recently launched by the acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu to flush out kidnappers and armed bandits along the Kaduna-Abuja highway and its environs.

“The efforts recorded so far have seen to the arrest of 34 suspects on different crimes and criminalities. These suspects belong to various gangs that terrorise the state and put the life of the citizens at risk.

“Nine suspects have been arrested for criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and kidnapping; 16 suspects for criminal conspiracy kidnapping and armed robbery; six suspects for criminal conspiracy, robbery and cattle rustling; two suspects for criminal conspiracy, attempt to commit an offence, kidnapping and possession of illegal firearm, one suspect for criminal conspiracy, extortion, defamation of character and giving false information.”

The CP explained that several arms, ammunition and other dangerous weapons including “three AK47 Rifles with 27 rounds of live Ammunitions, one locally made pistol, one Dane Gun, a pair of army Camouflage uniform

“A Honda Civic vehicle, two motorcycles,  399 cows, 93 sheep, one dog, one Samsung S8+, Tecno mobile phones, one axe, four cutlasses, assorted charms, three torchlight, one house-breaking implement and stolen domestic animals were recovered from the suspects during the various operations,” he added.

PDP Rejects Kaduna Governorship Results, Allege Manipulation Of Figures


The PDP in Kaduna state has rejected the governorship election results from about five local government areas, on the grounds that they were allegedly rigged by the opposition.

The Deputy Director General of the PDP campaign organization in the state, Danjuma Seriki who was at the collation centre, accused INEC officials and security operatives of conniving with the APC to manipulate the election.

He said his party will use all available legal means to reclaim its mandate that was given to them by the people of Kaduna state.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna state commissioner of police, Ahmad Abdurahman has denied allegations by the PDP that his men connived with the APC to rig the elections within the state.

Abdurahman said that his men exhibited thorough professionalism during the election, describing the allegations as baseless and totally false.
