Police Intercept 34,865 Live Cartridges, Arrest Three Suspected Smugglers In Ogun

 

The police have arrested three suspected smugglers including a Togolese over 34,865 live cartridges of ammunition discovered in Imeko, Imeko/ Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State

According to the Commissioner of Police for the state Police Command, Ahmed Iliyasu, the cartridges were neatly concealed in a Toyota Dyna with registration number, Lagos KSF 254 XX.

While leading his officers to Ilara, a border town in Imeko-Afon where the discovery was made, Iliyasu said the feat was made possible through intelligence gathering during routine stop and search conducted by his men.

“It is a scientifically-designed method of criminality and gangsterism. This is a cartel. Our team has been working on intelligence about the movement of these criminal gangs for over several months, like six months and today they have met their waterloo,” he said on Saturday.

The police boss who revealed that the suspects tried to induce some officers however maintained that the monetary offer was however rejected.

He vowed that the suspects would be made to face the consequences of their action.

Police authorities disclosed that the ammunition was heading towards Onitsha in Anambra State before it was intercepted.

Reacting to the development, the traditional ruler of the area, Oba Benjamin Olanite, called for more security presence at the border communities.

He wants the police to create more Area Commands among other security arrangements aimed at fighting the menace of crime.

Police Parade Crime Suspects In Kaduna

Police, Kaduna, CrimeThe Kaduna State Police Command has arrested over 40 crime suspects who specialise in armed robbery, snatching of cars, cattle rustling and stealing household items.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Adamu Ibrahim, disclosed this when he paraded the suspects before reporters at the Police Officers’ Mess in the Kaduna State’s capital, northwest Nigeria.

He said that the suspects were arrested by the Police at different locations in the state during an operation, while several AK47 rifles, pistols, live ammunition and cartridges were recovered from them.

Mr Ibrahim who said all the arrests were made within the month of May, added that vehicles of various kinds, television sets, laptops and handsets were recovered from them during the operation.

He revealed that the suspects usually take their stolen vehicles to Niger Republic, where they sell them to their accomplices.

He noted that one of them had a device with which he used to neutralise a vehicle tracker, thereby preventing owners of such cars from tracking them when they were stolen.

One of the robbery suspects, Ibrahim Kabir, who was arrested last year for the same offence confessed to the crime, but blamed it to the devil’s handiwork.

Another female suspect arrested for allegedly keeping guns for one of the suspects, who incidentally was her boyfriend, narrated how she got involved in the act.

The Kaduna State Police Commissioner reiterated that the command would not relent in its fight against criminals and criminality throughout the state.

He urged the car owners to come to the command with their vehicle papers to claim their vehicles.

Kogi Police Parades 45 Criminal Suspects

policeThe Kogi State Police Command has paraded 45 suspected criminals, including a lady for alleged kidnapping, armed robbery and cattle rustling activities in the state.

Also paraded among the 45 suspects were 72-year-old Ahmed Andoke, a relative of former Minister of Justice, Mohammed Andoke, and an All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate in the last House of Assembly election for Okehi State Constituency, Idris Ozi Shuaibu, and a cripple alleged to be in custody of stolen items and financing some criminal gangs terrorizing the state.

Following the upsurge of activities of armed bandits, kidnappers, social miscreants and hoodlums in the state the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, deployed a special anti-crime task force to relocate to the state and quickly address the situation.

The State Governor, Idris Wada, has promised to give out the sum of 5 million naira to anybody with credible information that will lead to tracking down the kidnappers terrorizing the state.

On parading the suspects and their loot, the Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the force, Emmanuel Ojukwu, said the squad has in the last three weeks quickly design a template to contain the situation.

Items recovered from the suspects are: 3 faces prepaid meters, AK 47, double barrel guns, locally made Dane guns, cartridges, charms, pump action, cars, cutlasses, military camouflage uniform, ATM cards etc.

Two of the harden criminals popularly called cat and target, were said to be terrorizing people of the Okene axis and were alleged to have killed some Policemen on duty and went away with their guns, were called for questioning.

Though Journalists could not ask questions from the suspects, and this made some of the suspects protest by shouting out, while others claimed it was a  frame up.

The police said the suspects will be charged to court after the completion of their investigation, not until then, they will be under the custody of the Police.

5 killed As Gunmen Attack Farmers In Plateau State

No fewer than five people were killed early Monday morning as unknown gunmen attacked farmers in Kassa village of Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau State, North Central Nigeria, killing three people while two of the attackers were killed by security personnel in a gun battle.

According to the media officer of the Special Task Force (STF), Captain Salisu Mustapha, members of the task force moved to the scene in response to distress call by the villagers and the attackers on sighting the troops opened fire.

The gun duel which ensued between the attackers and the military personnel resulted to the killing of two of the attackers while four others were injured and arrested and in the process the military recovered three AK 47 rifles, one locally made rifle, 45 rounds of 7.62mm special and 31 cartridges.

Prior to the Monday attack, some cows while grazing were attacked at Kassa area of Ropp district in the same Barkin Ladi local government area in which six of the cows were killed and three injured while two suspects were arrested in connection to the incident.

There was also a similar attack on Kubel village in the same local government area as seventeen cows were killed, nine wounded and five were declared missing while preliminary investigations by security personnel led to the arrest of three suspects currently been investigated.

With the incessant attacks in the villages becoming rampant in spite of the concerted efforts of the task force towards maintaining peace in the state, the security operatives has declared that any individual or group of persons bent in fomenting trouble with the sole aim of truncating peace in the state have made themselves enemies of peace and will be treated as such.
