Katy Perry, Beckham, Others Call On G7 To Share COVID-19 Vaccines With Poor Nations

Katy Perry, Beckham, Sergio Ramos appeal to the group to pledge 150 million doses.

Nearly 30 celebrities, from singer Katy Perry to footballer David Beckham, called on the G7 Tuesday to share COVID-19 vaccines with poorer countries ahead of a summit in Britain this weekend.

The entertainment and sports figures urged the seven countries — France, Italy, the UK, Canada, Japan, Germany, and the United States — to pledge at least 20 percent of their supply between June and August, amounting to 150 million doses.

“The world has spent a year and a half battling the Covid-19 pandemic, but the virus is still spreading in many countries and producing new variants with the potential to put us all back where we started,” the missive warned.

“This means more school closures, more healthcare disruptions, and greater economic fallout — threating the futures of families and children everywhere,” it said.

Among the other signatories on the letter, which included a number of UNICEF goodwill ambassadors, were actors Liam Neeson, Orlando Bloom, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Whoopi Goldberg.

Singers Billie Eilish and Angelique Kidjo plus football star Sergio Ramos, Formula One driver Fernando Alonso and tennis star Andy Murray also signed the letter.

Britain is hosting the G7 summit in Cornwall in southwestern England starting Friday.

Aliens mistake Zooey Deschanel for Katy Perry in ‘Not the End of the World’ music video

Katy Perry and Zoey Deschanel look alike, this is almost a pop culture fact. Right?

Katy Perry seemed to have realised it somewhere along the line too because Deschanel is staring in Perry’s new video as a Perry look-alike. There’s even abduction in the mix.

The singer is shown taking her baby girl for a walk in the park, where she crosses paths with Deschanel – prompting extra terrestrials searching for the new mum to accidentally nab the New Girl star instead.

“For so long, we’ve had this funny friendship, because obviously, people think we look alike,” Perry said, as Deschanel exclaimed: “I’ve had full conversations with people where they think I was you!” the stars shared a fun banter on Instagram to promote the release of the music video.

In the weeks after Smile’s release, Perry shared new videos for seven of its 12 songs in what she called “The Smile Video Series,” each rendered in a distinct style, mostly in different animation techniques.
Following that series, she released a video for “Teary Eyes” consisting of behind-the-scenes footage (“Behind the Smile,” as she labeled it), a video for a remix of “Resilient,” and now the Deschanel-starring “Not the End of the World.”

Surprise! Katy Perry Reveals Pregnancy In Latest Music Video

It was a twofer for fans of Katy Perry: the pop star dropped a new music video — and revealed that she and her fiance, actor Orlando Bloom, are expecting a baby.

The 35-year-old Perry cradles a baby bump in the final seconds of the video for “Never Worn White,” released late Wednesday.

Shortly before it dropped, Perry had published a snippet of the clip, fuelling speculation on social media that the singer — known for hits such as “I Kissed A Girl” and “Roar” — might be expecting.

“Let’s just say it’s gonna be a jam packed summer…” Perry wrote afterwards on various social media sites.

“So glad I don’t have to suck it in anymore… or carry around a big purse,” she told her more than 108 million Twitter followers.

The songstress is engaged to Bloom, who is best known for his role as Legolas in “The Lord of the Rings” saga as well as his turn in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise alongside Johnny Depp.

The baby will be Perry’s first and the second for Bloom, 43, who has a son with model Miranda Kerr.

A US gospel rapper whose song was partially copied by Katy Perry was awarded $2.7 million in damages by a federal jury Thursday in the latest high-profile copyright ruling to rock the music industry.

Perry herself was ordered to pay just over $550,000 to Marcus Gray — who performs as “Flame” — after the jury found that a beat used in her 2013 song “Dark Horse” constituted copyright infringement.

The ruling followed a weeklong trial in Los Angeles where Perry took the witness stand and said she had never heard of Gray’s 2009 rap “Joyful Noise.”

Perry’s representatives immediately vowed to appeal if the case is not dismissed pending a defense motion.

“The writers of ‘Dark Horse’ consider this a travesty of justice,” attorney Christine Lepera said outside court.

Gray’s lawyers had argued for a far higher penalty of around $20 million.

“These defendants made millions and millions of dollars from their infringement of the plaintiffs’ song,” attorney Michael Kahn told the court.

During the trial, Perry’s lawyers said the two songs’ underlying beat was “commonplace” and therefore cannot be copyrighted.

But Gray’s lawyers said the defendants had “copied an important part” of his song, referring to a 16-second instrumental section.

Perry’s label Capitol Records was ordered to pay $1.2 million of the damages. Her producers will also pay toward the sum.

Perry performed a version of “Dark Horse” at the 2015 Super Bowl, while “Joyful Noise” has been viewed more than 3 million times on YouTube.

Gray’s team first brought the litigation against Perry in 2014.

The number of copyright lawsuits has been proliferating in recent years in the US.

The case follows a long-running copyright dispute by the family of Motown legend Marvin Gaye who won a nearly $5 million judgment against Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams.

Thicke and Williams were accused by Gaye’s estate of copyright infringement for their 2013 hit because of similarities with the late singer’s “Got to Give It Up.”

The initial judgment against Thicke and Williams sent shockwaves through the songwriting community, which has been accustomed to lawsuits alleging musical similarities but never expected courts to take such claims seriously.

British rock group Led Zeppelin are facing another trial over claims they copied part of “Stairway to Heaven” after a US appeals court last year overturned a 2016 judgment.

Katy Perry Ends 96-Hour Youtube Livestream With Concert

Katy Perry ended a 4-day-long YouTube live-stream – dubbed ‘Katy Perry – Witness World Wide’ with a live afternoon concert Monday (June 12) in Los Angeles for 1,000 lucky fans.

On Friday (June 9) Perry kicked off events with the release of her latest album, “Witness.” Besides the concert, where she performed songs from the album, highlights of the 96 hour promotional binge included discussions about civil rights, life, love, mental health and mindfulness; makeup tutorials; puppy grooming; and a vow by Perry to bury the hatchet on her long-running feud with pop rival Taylor Swift, calling her a “fantastic songwriter” and saying she thinks both can be examples of strong women in the music industry.

But Swift, 27, had yet to respond to the olive branch on Sunday and end the bad blood between two of pop music’s biggest female singers.

The feud, which started as a dispute over back up dancers, has dominated the personal and professional lives of the two singers for more than three years and played out in their songs.

Swift on Friday released her back catalog to streaming services, after eschewing most such platforms for three years, on the same day that Perry released her new album “Witness” in what was widely seen as a bid to steal Perry’s thunder.

At the Monday concert, sporting a blond, and a shimmery two piece outfit, Perry performed both her hits and new songs.

The concert aired live on Katy’s YouTube channel.

The single is another preview of her upcoming fifth studio album “Witness”.

The video attracted 14 million views on You Tube in 24 hours.

Prior to the video’s release, the singer wrote on social media: “Hot and ready to serve but make no mistake, I’m not your piece of meat” followed by #sexualliberation.

The first single “Chained to the Rhythm”, released last February, has been certified Platinum in the American service of Spotify and topped the charts around the world.

Katy Perry’s new album, the follow-up to 2013’s “Prism”, is set to be released next June 9.

Lady Gaga Rushes Out New Single ‘Applause’ To Beat Leaks

lady gaga applause Lady Gaga has rushed out her new single, ‘Applause’, after a number of snippets of the song started leaking on Saturday.

“A pop music emergency is underway,” tweeted Lady gaga as the single was distributed to iTunes and YouTube. Applause, the singer’s first new material since 2011, was originally scheduled for release on 19 August.

Leaks are almost a fact of life for today’s pop stars, with Beyonce, Katy Perry and Jay-Z all seeing unauthorised material appear online this year. Of 2013’s major releases, only David Bowie managed to keep his new album under wraps.

“Lord in heaven, why?” the 27-year-old tweeted, blaming hackers for the leak. “You just couldn’t wait. This is too much for one Saturday. “At first, she mobilised fans – asking them to report leaks to her record label – but by Monday evening she had relented and released the song to radio and online stores.

A short burst of robotic pop, Applause has so far received positive reviews.

Calling the single a “throwback” to her earlier material, Rolling Stone said “Applause is all bouncy disco and simple messages”.

Billboard magazine said it was “built around pulsating synthesizers and morphs into a thrilling dance cut when it circles back to its chorus”. But Spin magazine said Applause “offers few reasons to clap”, calling the track “bland” and “behind the times”.

Lady Gaga is due to give the first performance of the single at the MTV Awards on 25 August. Her third album, ARTPOP, will be released in November.
