Chelsea’s English head coach Frank Lampard (R) touch the elbow of Chelsea’s Brazilian midfielder Willian as he is substituted off during the English Premier League football match between Aston Villa and Chelsea at Villa Park in Birmingham, central England on June 21, 2020.

Chelsea wingers Willian and Pedro have extended their contracts until the end of the current campaign, the Premier League club announced on Tuesday.

Both Brazilian star Willian and Spanish playmaker Pedro could have left Chelsea on June 30 when their original deals were set to expire.

With the Premier League season set to run until the end of July due to the coronavirus hiatus, that would have been a blow to Chelsea’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.

But now the pair will be able to feature for Frank Lampard’s team until the campaign is concluded.

“As a result of the global pandemic and the subsequent delayed conclusion to the campaign, Premier League clubs unanimously agreed to be allowed to enter into short-term contract extensions with players whose deals were due to expire at the end of this month,” a Chelsea statement said on Tuesday.

“Willian and Pedro were among those affected, and they and the club have now mutually agreed to extend contracts until the finale of the current season.

“It means they will be available for our remaining Premier League fixtures in 2019/20, as well as any future involvement in the FA Cup and Champions League.”

Willian has been a key figure for Chelsea this season, while Pedro has mostly appeared as a substitute.

Chelsea are currently fourth in the Premier League and face Manchester City on Thursday.

They also have an FA Cup quarter-final date with Leicester on Sunday and are still in the Champions League, albeit trailing 3-0 after the first leg of their last 16 tie against Bayern Munich.

This meant Conte was rewarded with his second successive Barclays Manager of the Month award.

Costa and Conte claimed their awards after receiving the most votes from a panel of experts, Premier League captains and the public were combined.

Chelsea Beat Manchester United 4-0

Chelsea, Manchester United, EPLFormer Chelsea Manager, Jose Mourinho was humiliated on his return to Stamford Bridge on Sunday as the Blues thrashed Manchester United 4-0.

The Blues led after just 30 seconds when Pedro capitalised on slack defending. Smalling hesitated as a long ball flew in, De Gea charged out and Pedro stole in to whip the ball round the ‘keeper into an empty net for what is now the fastest goal of the season.

The evening got worse for Jose Mourinho 20 minutes later. From a corner, the ball broke to Gary Cahill six yards out and he volleyed high into the net past De Gea.

United offered little sign of making a comeback after failing to capitalise on their good spell in the second half and they fell further behind when Eden Hazard drilled in a precise 15-yard strike to make it 3-0.

It was no way back at this point for the Reds. N’golo Kante sealed victory with a stunning goal; his first for Chelsea.

He took the ball after a clever flick from Pedro, brilliantly dribling past Chris Smalling and then rolled sublimely into the corner past David de Gea.

Chelsea with the victory, moved within a point of English Premier League leaders Manchester City who had earlier played a 1-1 draw with Southampton at the Etihad Stadium.

“I am very happy because I am finding the players with the right attitude and the right behaviour,’ Conte said.

“They are great workers and this is very important because we need to have a bit of time to go into a new idea of football, and a new method of work with different tactical, physical and mental aspects,” Conte told the club’s website.

“It’s also important to have a bit of time for me to know the players and for the players to know me.

“In the Euros I had a finished team. Now we are building. In this moment it’s normal I have a bit of difficulty with this change because with Chelsea we are beginning our season.

“I am getting to know a lot of new players and I’m bringing them a new idea of football. We need a bit of time but I saw a lot of positive things this week.

“And then today Fabregas, Pedro, Cuadrado, Cahill and Azpi arrived,” added Conte.

“This is important because I need to have the complete group to work, and to transfer my ideas to all the players.’

UCL: Chelsea Captain, Terry To Miss PSG Game

ChelseaChelsea FC captain, John Terry, will miss Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 second leg against Paris St Germain at Stamford Bridge due to injury.

Diego Costa, Pedro and Kenedy were all involved in the team’s final training session before the game, but John Terry was absent as the 35-year-old central defender is still struggling with a hamstring problem that has kept him out of the last five matches.

Confirming the fears, Terry said on Instagram on Tuesday. “I’m gutted to be missing the PSG game.

“It’s so frustrating missing any game but these big Champions League nights at the Bridge are unbelievable and it hurts as a player not to be involved.

“I have thrown everything at my injury trying to get back fit but sometimes you have to let the injury settle. thankfully I’m on the mend and hope to be back soon.”

Diego Costa missed Saturday’s draw with Stoke because of a minor tendon injury, but he joined the group in training on Tuesday, as did Pedro who suffered a hamstring injury at Southampton.

John Terry and Kurt Zouma were the only absentees from the Chelsea first team squad.

PSG lead 2-1 from the first leg in Paris.

Mourinho Expresses Pleasure In Chelsea’s Victory Over Maccabi

MourinhoChelsea Manager, Jose Mourinho, admits he is happy to be back to winning ways after his side’s 4-nil victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Champions League.

Despite Eden Hazard blazing an early penalty high over the bar, the English Premier League champions scored twice in the first half.

Diego Costa, who replaced Willian after the Brazilian was injured after 20 minutes, brilliantly volleyed in Chelsea’s third after 58 minutes with Cesc Fabregas finishing off a breakaway for the fourth after 78 minutes.

Mourinho also confirmed that Chelsea would be without Pedro and Willian in Saturday’s Premier League clash with Arsenal.

Mourinho’s team have made a stuttering start to their premier league title defence, managing four points from their five games that left them fourth from bottom in the league table.

However, the Chelsea Manager lashed out at his critics, saying he remains “a fantastic manager” in victory and in defeats.

Barcelona wins to mount pressure on Madrid

Defending champions Barcelona upped the pressure on leaders Real Madrid on Tuesday as they moved to within a point of their bitter rivals after a 4-0 thumping of Getafe.

Two goals from Alexis Sanchez, one from Pedro Rodriguez and Lionel Messi’s 39th in the league this season gave Barca a 10th consecutive league victory after another near perfect performance by the Catalans.

In the 22nd minute the home crowd chanted the name of Eric Abidal, the French international who on Tuesday underwent a liver transplant, in recognition of the number 22 shirt he wears as part of Barca’s squad.

Real can restore their four point advantage if they beat Atletico Madrid on Wednesday – they have not lost to their city rivals since 1999.

The clash between Barca and Madrid on April 21st in the Camp Nou has become increasingly important as the Catalans have reduced the gap on Madrid from 10 points to only one in less than a month.

Barcelona dominated Getafe throughout, controlling possession with their usual passing game and goalkeeper Victor Valdes summed up the situation on the final whistle.

“Our work is done here, lets wait and see what Madrid do tomorrow night in their game,” he said.

However coach Pep Guardiola was cautious about talking about his team’s title chances.

“All we can do is think about our games, we have a big game away to Levante at the weekend and then a Champions League semifinal, we have to focus on those games and nobody elses,” he said.

Andres Iniesta had the game’s first chance when his shot was tipped over by Miguel Angel Moya in the Getafe goal on 12 minutes.

A minute later and Barca were ahead. Iniesta started the move on the left for Messi to chest the ball into the path of the Chilean Sanchez who made no mistake from 20 yards out.

On 17 minutes the lead was almost doubled when Xavi Hernandez had appeared to finish perfectly a neat passing move only for Argentinian centre-half Cata Diaz to scoop the ball clear on the goal-line.

Barca continued to dominate but did not add to their lead until just before halftime when Iniesta supplied Messi with a delightful back flick for the Argentinian to finish with a powerful shot.

On 72 minutes Alexis doubled his tally heading home an inch perfect right-wing cross from youngster Isaac Cuenca.

Two minutes later and it was another header from Pedro who rounded off the scoring when he was quickest to meet a right-wing free-kick from Messi.
