Obiano Commits To Employing 178 Youths In Anambra

Willie Obiano, Boundary Dispute, EnuguThe Anambra state government has pledged its commitment to solving the problem of youth unemployment in the state, through opening windows of opportunity in various fields of the economy including agriculture, trade and commerce, in the civil service.

The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, revealed this when he visited the Umuawulu Training Camp where 178 youths were undergoing training ahead of employment into the state civil service under Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade.

The agency is in charge of environmental orderliness and task force against illegal Internally Generated Revenue collectors.

The Anambra State has a population of over four million people with the youths forming a critical mass in the structure.

The state government has shown its commitment to youths employment and empowerment through engaging them in the agricultural sector and creating career opportunities for them in the state civil service.

During the youth rally held last month in the state, Governor Willie Obiano had assured youths of more job opportunities having created within the last two years.

According to the Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Youths Empowerment, Dr. Onyeka Ibezim, the statistics of youth employment and empowerment in the state, under the present administration showed an aggressive resolve to reduce unemployment to the barest minimum.

“Anambra State Waste Management Agency, this area was initially moribund, so what did we do? We energized it and recently we have a new employment of about 600 working on that in addition to what we had before.

“In the Anambra Transport Management Authority, (ATMA) we have close to 457 new entrants into the scheme.

“In agriculture, we have more than 3,500 graduates that are structured in our various farms. As you know it is no more agriculture as usual, we are not talking of cutlass and hoe agriculture, we are talking of mechanized agriculture.”

The NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp at Umuawulu, Awka South local government area, Anambra, said 178 youths were undergoing training for onward career opportunities into the state civil service under the agency, Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, Ocha Brigade.

The Secretary to the State Government who came on inspection visit to the camp expressed gratitude to the governor for the employment move despite the critical economic situation in the country.

“The governor has also empowered 200 hundred road sweepers, men and women again and this is in addition to the previous 140 or thereabout that were employed.

This is the third batch of OCHA Brigade people that will be employed. In total, their number is coming up to about 300 people that will be located in various parts of the state.”

The trainees were drawn from the 20 Local Government Areas of the state and are to spend one month in the training camp in view of the critical job they are about to embark on.

The Superintendent emphasized discipline as the core area of training as well as pointing out the premise of operation.

“A lot of them here have different characters and from different places, so we need to bring them together to follow them as the training goes, to know those who are really out to do this job and those who have come to spy what we are doing and also find a way of thwarting what we are going to do in the field.

“That is why you see us removing some of them, dismissing some of them and replacing them with those who are ready and are here to do the training.

 

Obiano Apologizes Publicly To Peter Obi

Willie Obiano, Peter Obi, ObianoAnambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has publicly apologized to his predecessor, Mr. Peter Obi, asking him to forgive any wrong done to him.

The Governor, who is an old student of the Christ the King College, Onitsha as well as his predecessor, made the open plea during the burial mass of their School Principal, Reverend Father Nicholas Tagbo, at the premises of their alma mater.

He did this in the presence of thousands of former school mates and a large number of priests who were present to honor the late renowned teacher and principal known for discipline, love, forgiveness and unity.

It was an unprecedented development for the people of Anambra State who hailed Governor Obiano’s action as the best in the interest of peace and unity of the state.

Reacting to the development, Governor Willie Obiano said that although he was unaware of what the challenge was, he deemed it wise to make the move in the spirit of the Reverend Father who taught them love and forgiveness.

Former Governor Peter Obi in his reaction, said that as Christians, it is important to forgive and whatever they, as leaders, are doing, the interest of the children of Anambra State should be paramount.

The Archbishop of the Catholic Diocese of Onitsha and Metropolitan of the Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger, Most Reverend Valerian Okeke, blessed the reconciliation.

Obiano Interacts With Anambra People Resident In Abuja

Anambra, ObianoAnambra people resident in Abuja and nearby northern states have hailed Governor Willie Obiano for his performance and inclusive style of government in the state.

This was during an interactive programme tagged, ‘An Evening With His Excellency’, at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, where Governor Willie Obiano interfaced with the people on his administrative journey so far in Anambra State.

The Governor was of the belief that two years on, and in keeping to the mandate of impacting positively on the people, it was imperative for him to present himself and his administrative activities to the people for assessment.

Relaying his activities to the audience, Governor Willie Obiano touched on his four-point administrative blueprint of Agriculture, Trade and Commerce, Oil and Gas and Industrialization, as well as the 12 enablers including security, health, education, environment among others. He proudly announced that the state had excelled.

In the area of security, the Governor told the people how he, along with all the security agencies in the state, attacked the command and control centers of kidnappers, armed robbers and other violent criminals.

He talked about how he created Operation Kpochapu, donated smart patrol cars to the Police and gun boats to the Navy and launched aerial surveillance of the state during the yuletide.

He went on to present the new vision he has for the state.

The Governor’s presentation and the documentary video of his exploits in the state prompted commendation from the people.

For the former Minister of Education, Mrs Obiageli Ezekwesili and the former Chairman of Police Service Commission, Mr Simon Okeke, evidence-based policies and prudent management of resources have prevailed in Anambra State and have set the state on the path of more successes.

The programme availed the people the opportunity of asking questions on grey areas to which they also received explanations from the Governor.

Governor Obiano, having earlier held similar interactive programmes in Anambra and Lagos, again, solicited support and partnership from all for the development of the state in the face of economic challenges.

The Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke, who also addressed the gathering, restated the difficulty in the governance process but stated that against all odds, Anambra was still on the rise.

He urged the audience to always judge the Governor constructively.

Obiano Launches Book On Achievements

ObianoAnambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has launched a book which captures his administration’s policies and programme since he assumed office.

Governor Obiano unveiled the book on Sunday at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Anambra State in southeast Nigeria, as part of activities marking his two years in office.

The 588-page book captures the developmental strides of the governor in critical sectors of the state.

Governor Obiano, who dedicated the successes recorded in the book to the people of the state, appealed for more support to enable him do more for the benefit of all.

Earlier the governor announced to the people of Anambra State that a very good foundation had been laid for sustainable development in the state since the inception of his administration.

He pointed out that the development strategy of the state in keeping afloat despite the present economic crunch in the country was his ability to define his vision and mission for the state.

Governor Obiano said that the vision and mission were hinged on four pillars of his administrative blueprint – agriculture, industrialisation, trade and commerce, and oil and gas.

Obiano Proud Of Sustainable Development In Anambra

The Governor made the pronouncement during a state broadcast while marking his two years in office.

He said that the development strategy of the state in keeping afloat, despite the present economic crunch in the country was his ability to define his vision and mission for the state.

Governor Obiano stressed that the vision and mission, which are hinged on four pillars of his administrative blueprint include: agriculture, industrialization, trade and commerce, as well as oil and gas.

He said that these alongside the twelve enablers have made Anambra State a socially stable and business friendly environment which has attracted both indigenous and foreign investors to come and seek wealth-creating opportunities.

Within the period, the Governor disclosed that investments valued at 3.2 billion dollars have been attracted in the state with 52,500 direct job and 200,000 indirect job prospects expected.

He appreciated the people of the Anambra State for their support since his swearing in, assuring them of more infrastructural projects, rebuilding of schools, hospitals, markets and environment.

Governor Willie Obiano said that with an impressive Internally Generated Revenue achieved through timely deployment of cutting edge technology and clinical weeding out of over 800 ghost workers in the state, the state would be transformed for good.

He also solicited the support of all and sundry to help move the plans and policies of the government forward to further stimulate commerce, strengthen security, as well as promote better social and economic life among citizens.
