Gov. Obiano Supports Umunze Federal College Of Education

The Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has announced several support measures for the development of education in Federal College of Education, Technical, Umunze, Orumba South local government area of Anambra state.

During the 23rd Joint Convocation ceremony of the institution where governor Obiano bagged a Fellowship Award, he stated that education was a critical enabler in his administrative blueprint and would also be a tool which youths could compete favorably, globally, and all efforts would be channeled towards improving it.

He announced the immediate commencement of construction of 1.8 kilometer Boulevard leading to the institution, immediate delivery of a 32 seating capacity bus and in addition to contracting the refuse disposal of the institution to a competent private sector firm and a donation of the institution development token of 5Million Naira.

The 23rd Joint Convocation ceremony of the institution was for 2,058 graduating students for the award of the National Certificate of Education (NCE), and Professional Diploma in Education (PDE).

The academic procession was impressive as the governor also joined and added to the spectacle.

At the convocation arena, speeches from the Provost, Professor Jehoshaphat Ogbuagu and the Executive Secretary of National Commission for College of Education, Professor Babb-Aliyu Muhammadu, who represented the Minister of Education, harped on objectives of higher education in producing teachers with occupational knowledge and skills needed for teaching technology relevant to the growth of Nigeria economy.

The Governor advised the graduating students and the need for them to take up the opportunities education had provided them with.

“As you have presented your certificates, you will see where it will say that you must be found worthy in character and learning, very critical key words for your future development and for the advancement of society.”

He also contributed to the growth of the institution, “As the provost mentioned earlier that we have started work on. It is 1.8 kilometers, we will finish it and asphalt it. I have also told the Provost, although I have given you buses a couple of times to enable you to commute within this great institution, I will be giving you another 32 sitting capacity bus”.

However, the governor was then decorated with Fellowship Award of the institution which is the highest award from the College reserved exclusively for selected persons who have proved their mettle in their areas of professionalism.

The award was in recognition of his giant strides in the development of Anambra state within a short period of time.

Obiano Flags Off 2016 Farming Season

Obiano, Farming SeasonThe Governor of Anambra State, Mr Willie Obiano, has flagged off the 2016 farming season in Anambra.

The flagging off exercise titled “Beyond Self Sufficiency in Food Production: Thinking Globally, Acting Locally,” took place at Umunze in Orumba South local government area of the state.

The Governor said that the two years of result-driven investment in agriculture by his administration has yielded impressive results with the restoration of hope and sense of pride in the people.

He pledged that his administration would remain committed to sustaining agricultural development and scheme-supporting farmers through creativity, innovative technology, farm mechanization, provision of improved seeds.

Governor Obiano assured the farmers that he would encourage agronomic practices that will ensure bumper harvest to promote food sufficiency and export of agricultural products from Anambra State.

The Governor updated the people with some of the agricultural exploits of his administration, ranging from Anambra being the first state to export vegetables to Europe.

He also spoke about the establishment of large industrial farms that have pushed up rice production to 190 metric tons a day, leading to massive job creation and gradual filling up of the gap in rice consumption and production in the state.

He announced the disbursement of loans and improved rice seedlings and cassava cuttings.

Governor Obiano distributed improved cassava cuttings and rice seedlings worth over two million Naira to various farmers’ cooperative societies and with a symbolic driving of the tractor during the flag-off exercise.

He rounded off the exercise with the inspection of the Nawfija farmland where the tractors handed out to farmers in the area for this year’s cropping season were already preparing the land for cultivation.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mechanization, Processing and Export, Mr Afam Mbanefo, revealed that the state had attracted 1.11 million dollar worth of investment in agriculture with rice and cassava production increasing by the day.

Governor Obiano Commissions Three Water Projects In Anambra

Willie-Obiano-Anambra-Water-ProjectGovernor Willie Obiano has commissioned three water projects in Anambra State in southeast Nigeria.

The first was the commissioning of a 420,000 litres capacity water scheme with 11 kilometres reticulation coverage at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam campus, located inside the university.

Governor Willie Obiano said that he decided to tackle the water challenge of the institution in line with his approach to issues concerning the critical sectors of Anambra State’s economy in terms of ensuring standard infrastructure.

He expressed hope that the water scheme, aside servicing the water needs of the university, would take care of over 1,000 households around the university environment daily.

Governor Obiano said that his vision was to ensure that the impact of good governance was felt by every citizen, community and institution in the state, maintaining that every necessary infrastructure meant to serve the people of the state must be fixed.

He stated that the project was a product of his visit to the university where he was told of the water challenge faced by students and staff over the years.

The governor also promised a quick completion of the power project in the state which would boost power supply in Igbariam while he advised the students to remain calm and peaceful.

In his speech, the Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Secretary to the State Government and the MDGs’ Desk Officer for the project, Mr Daniel Ezeagwu, highlighted the specifications of the water project that distinguished it as the best.

Commending the Governor, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Fidelis Okafor, said that he would ensure the water needs of the institution were serviced effectively.

Governor Obiano proceeded to Ihiala Local Government Area (LGA) where a water scheme with total storage capacity of 475 litres with 40 kilometres reticulation was commissioned as 20 kilometres of water reticulation in the first phase had been realised.

He assured the residents that work on two major roads within Ihiala would commence and effort was in top gear to ensure 15 hours of electricity supply in the local government area.

At Umunze in Orumba South Local Government Area, the joy of the people knew no bound, as the largest regional water scheme of 870 litres storage capacity with 40 kilometres reticulation was commissioned.

The project executed by the Anambra State government with support of the Federal government under the 2013/2014 MDGs’ conditional grants scheme comprises three boreholes, water treatment facility and 100KVA generator, as it would serve at least 35,000 households daily.

Governor Obiano urged the residents to take ownership of the project and protect it from vandalism, especially the giant generator that would be supplying power for the water scheme and be sure to wave goodbye perpetually to water challenge.

Anambra State Signs $320 Million Agreement For International Market

AnambraAnambra state government has signed a $320 million business agreement with a private consortium, for an International market to be sited at Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area of the State.

Signing the memorandum at the governor’s lodge at Amawbia, Governor Willie Obiano said the project was in its first phase and would create over 600 jobs and would provide viable outlet for distributing and marketing goods mass produced by the industrial hub in the state.

The governor also shored up the occasion with a gallant entry to sign the $320 million dollar agreement with the consortium for the establishment of a modern market of international status.

in his speech, the Chairman of Anambra State Promotion and Protection Investment Agency, under whose auspices the project was attracted said the market would have a shopping mall, industrial park, educational and medical facilities and entertainment center.

The leader of the team, Mr Obiora Anyaralu and another senior member of the consortium, Dr. Adedeji Ameh, said the second phase of the project would incorporate the establishment of a housing estate.

He further said that the project would assist the governor in achieving his vision towards elevating the state to an enviable height in commerce.

Addressing the august team, the Governor stated that a similar market would be established in Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area, explaining that the main market with its challenge of old age necessitated the undertaking of the present project.

He assured the gathering of direct job creation to the tune of 600 when the project must have been completed. He put the percentage benefit of the project to the state at five per cent while the local government of domicile gets 25 per cent.

Signatures by all parties involved were appended, thus sealing the deal and expectations are now high that in 42 months, an international trade center must have been built in Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area of the state as the state heads for a digital e-commerce stage in trade and business activities.

While signing the memorandum at the Governor’s Lodge at Amawbia, Governor Willie Obiano said that the project, which was at its starting point, would create over 6,000 job opportunities and would provide viable outlets for distributing and marketing goods mass produced by the industrial hub in the state.

The Governor, who charged up the occasion with a gallant entry, stated that a similar market would also be established in Umunze, Oruma South Local Government Area, explaining that the main market with its challenge of old age necessitated the undertaking of the present project.

The Chairman of Anambra State Promotion and Protection Investment Agency, ANSIPPA, under whose auspices the project was attracted, said that the market would be made up of a shopping mall, industrial park, educational and medical facilities as well as an entertainment centre.

Similarly, the leader of the team, Mr. Obiora Anyaralu, and another senior member of the consortium, Dr. Adedeji Ameh, said that the second phase of the project would assist the Governor in achieving his vision towards elevating the state to an enviable height.
