Presidency Sends 27 REC Nominees For Senate Confirmation

inecThe Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has told the Taraba State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja that it did not supervise the primary election that produced the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the April 11, 2015 governorship election held in the state.

The electoral body claimed that the primary election of the PDP was conducted in violation of the law which requests that INEC must be present to supervise and observe the conduct of the poll.

Counsel to the PDP, Mr Solomon Akuma (SAN), countered the claim and showed the tribunal document showing that there was a primary election of the party that produced Darius Ishaku as its governorship candidate for the said election.

During the hearing of the petition, one of the petitioners’ witness and an INEC official, Aminu Idris, told the tribunal that no INEC official was in attendance when the primary election took place.
