Yobe-Chambers of CommerceThe Association of Nigerian Electricity Distribution Companies has asked the government to allow the discos easy access to foreign exchange to boost service delivery.

The Executive Director of the Association, Mr Sunday Oduntan, explained that the ability of the industry to meet its obligations is being constrained by the lack of access to scarce foreign exchange.

This, he said, has led to a revenue shortfall of about 300 billion Naira.

According to Mr Oduntan, the deficit threatens to completely undermine the electricity value chain and its ability to continue to serve the customers.

He added that the metering gap has dropped to 2.8 million customers, with about 3.3 million customers now metered across the country.
