Goldie Harvey Passes Away
Hip-hop artiste and Nigeriaâs representative at the last Big Brother Africa Star Game reality show; Goldie is dead. Goldie passed away on Thursday night shortly after she returned from the US where she attended the Grammy Awards on Sunday.
Although details of the cause of her death are yet to be ascertained, the musician who is famed for her renaissance style, died at Reddington Hospital, in Victoria Island, Lagos.
She was said to have been rushed to the hospital after she complained of a migraine and then gave up the ghost in the hands of her friend and Channel O Veejay; Denrele Edun, who was in the hospital with her.
Susan Oluwabimpe Harvey was signed on to Kennis Music Record label in 2010 and the deal has since re-launched her music career with the release of her acclaimed debut titled, âGoldâ.
The album had hit songs including âYou Know Itâ, âJawo Jawoâ and âDonât Touch My Bodyâ.
Her latest effort, she described as âthree nawti singlesâ from her forthcoming âAfrican Invasion albumâ are âSkiboâ, âMilikiâ and âGot To Have Itâ presently enjoying air plays on radio and TV stations across the continent.
She was reported to be working on collaborating with American Hip-Hop artiste; Keri Hilson, which was arranged during her trip to the US for the Grammy Awards.
Confirming her demise, the President of Kennis Music, Keke Ogungbe, in a statement on Thursday night stated that âwith a deep sense of loss, we announce the shocking death of our darling music star, Goldie Harvey.â
âGoldie, 31, died on Thursday after she complained of a severe headache shortly after her arrival from the United States where she went to witness the Grammy Award. She was rushed from her Park View, Ikoyi, Lagos residence to her official hospital, Reddington, Victoria Island, Lagos, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival at exactly 7:30pm in the evening.â
âWe consider this period a gloomy moment for us and the entire Nigerian music industry in view of the circumstance in which she passed away; the abundance of talent she exhibited in her short but eventful music career and the various opportunities her trip to the United States of America would have availed her.â
The first of four kids, Goldie attended the Green Springs Montessori Primary School and St. Johnâs College, Palm Groove, in Lagos.
She is also survived by her father and step- mother.
