Some journalists from the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State have been beaten with their cameras destroyed by hoodlums suspected to be PDP thugs while trying to cover a fire outbreak at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat in Ekiti State. 

The party secretariat was set on fire on Tuesday morning by unknown persons.

After the incident, the National Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalist, Mr Garba Mohammed, directed all journalists in the state to “stay away from all activities of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State until a letter of apology is tendered”.

The directive was issued through the chairman of the union in the state, Mr Laolu Omosilade.

The incident is a violation of the journalists’ right to information as enshrined in the Freedom of Information Act.
